Nick is a fantastic instructor, from start to finish, he came and had a conversation with me and my son before lessons started telling us what to expect from him, and he delivered. My son suffers from anxiety, Nick really put him at ease, with a gentle and patient approach.

When my son needed a break from driving lessons for mental health reasons, Nick was happy to put them on hold, and resume when my son was ready to start up again.

My son passed his test with flying colours, and this really has given him confidence, and self esteem within himself.

What can I say about 17 PLUS and Nick Salzen? I was a delivery driver for their parcels. My daughter said as early as the age of 7 that Nick would be her driving instructor. He said he would probably be retired by then. 10 years later my daughter has passed.  Wow, her confidence has grown so much now and she has just completed her Pass Plus course all within 8 months!

Lilly loved her driving lessons. The day her test came she was scared, but Nick reassured her and told her to have a banana. She will never forget his advice on Bowaters roundabout, “middle middle left”. If you need someone that is patient and likes a dad joke don’t call ghostbusters, call Nick Salzen this is from a parent that was reassured all the way from theory test to practical test and Pass Plus.

My Daughter did not have the best start with her first driving instructor who she had two lessons with, he totally knocked her confidence.

I decided to find her a new instructor and Nick was kind enough to fit her in to his busy schedule.

Nick was the best find, he first comes to your house a few days before the first lesson and introduces himself, which is such a good thing, it helped her feel calm and at ease before her first lesson and he also comes to your house and gives a free theory lesson which is also brilliant. My daughter passed her theory first time and I feel that this was a big contributing factor.

Nick is a very friendly, welcoming man and is extremely professional. He has helped my daughter in many ways and due to his expertise I feel he helped her pass her driving test first time and cannot thank him enough for all he has done. I highly recommend Nick to anyone who would like to learn to drive, he is simply the best.

I can highly recommend Nick and 17 PLUS Driving School. My daughter always looked forward to her lessons and felt encouraged and empowered during her time learning with Nick. Prior to her first lesson Nick took the time to come and meet myself and my daughter and explained his teaching methods and what to expect; this definitely helped ease any initial nerves and was a thoughtful touch. Towards the end of her time with Nick, we were fully supported with the logistics of booking a test, including how to get a cancellation slot and Nick was very flexible with his time (and when we sprung a very early test time on him he made himself available without any hesitation). From start to finish the whole experience has been only positive and we will without doubt return to Nick when our younger children are old enough to start their driving lessons.

Nick has been a great driving instructor to my daughter, as he has provided her with real life driving tips and advice. He also gave her a confidence boost after she failed her driving test the first time after she had learnt with an alternative company. What I admired about Nick’s style of teaching is how he took Emily outside of her comfort zone of the Medway towns driving test routes and gave her a broader driving experience in other locations and scenarios, ultimately helping her to become a more confident and competent driver, which as her parent I have noticed now that she has passed her driving test. “Nick taught our son Harry to drive in 2019. Patient and friendly Nick put Harry at ease from the very first lesson which dramatically improved his confidence over a very short time. Nick was always punctual and flexible in terms of pick-ups and drop-offs so Harry could fit his driving lessons around his A levels.

Harry passed his both his theory and driving tests the first time under Nick’s instruction and Harry subsequently took the Pass Plus course. Harry has been driving over 9 months now. Drives every day to Sidcup for his degree course.

As soon as my daughter Lois started learning to drive with Nick I knew we had made the right decision to choose 17 PLUS Driving School. Even though Lois was quite nervous to start with, Nick quickly put her at ease and she became a confident and calm driver. He came to the house and met Lois before the actual practical driving lessons started, free of charge by the way, and I think this really helped. His teaching methods clearly suited her and she went on to pass her driving test first time. Lois would always come home from her lessons laughing about Nick’s jokes and humour, he always made her laugh. Lois enjoyed every lesson and is now a very good confident driver. I would highly recommend Nick at 17 PLUS Driving School, I do not think you could find a better instructor.

We were recommended to Nick by our close friends, whose son had also been recommended to Nick and we have never looked back. We saw our son build in confidence with every session with Nick, where you could see the rapport and trust building on each lesson. Nick also took the time to involve us in our sons progress, plus given the Covid lock down, and our son being out of action for a couple of months due to surgery, Nick always stayed in touch, and reassured our son that he would not lose his slot. When we first contacted Nick to teach our 17 year old son to drive we expected him to be no different to other instructors. That being, we hand over the payment and have no further interaction with him. We couldnt have been further from the truth, whilst other instructors work solely with the student, Nick spent the first half hour with us (without charge) going through his method of teaching and the expectations we should have of each other. Nick continued to keep us informed of our sons progress throughout the 8 months it took him to successfully pass his driving test.

Nick also included a free theory lesson at home helping our son to familiarise himself with the structure of the theory test. Nick conducted himself in a professional manner by ensuring we were present in the house and all we did was provide the tea and custard creams!

As a parent, we worry about our child driving in the dark and on the motorway. Nick ensured our son experienced after-dark driving and also offered a free motorway driving lesson once he passed his test. This was a tremendous bonus, it was re-assuring to know our son would experience his first motorway driving with Nick in his dual control car, because as we all know, motorway driving conditions are uniquely different to street driving and is an experience in itself.

With these invaluable extras, Nicks driving lessons package is a cut above the rest and his commitment to both his students and the parents is admirable.

Nick had a natural rapport with our son; he was able to connect on a down to earth, friendly, relaxed level whilst maintaining total professionalism. I would say he came across as the teacher at school that every student liked…including the parents

My daughter was very nervous about starting her driving lessons but Nick put her at ease immediately. He came to our house, (free of charge) to get to know her before any lessons were booked to make sure that he was the best fit for her. Nick was always very patient, calming and reliable for every lesson. Molly passed her theory and practical tests first time in just 6 months of starting to learn with Nick. My daughter Emily was learning to drive in an automatic adapted vehicle at the South East Driveability centre at Maidstone. She was progressing well but slowly. She was eventually placed under the instruction of Nick and followed him when he left S.E.D. to focus on his own driving school because they got on so well together. His patience, calm instructing ability and the confidence he installed in my daughter was amazing. She has now passed her driving test which has given her so much confidence, freedom and independence within herself. Her smile and joy on the day my wife and I will always remember.

Nick was a fantastic driving instructor for my son Harry. He was able to mould, coach and provide positive feedback during my sons lessons. Nick was very flexible and tailoring his time around Harrys needs, with his expert knowledge in the motoring world, he also helped Harry in passing his Theory test first time. This was achieved by sitting down one lesson at our home, free of charge and went through the revision pack that he provided. As well as this, during the closing stages of Harrys tuition, Nick devoted a lot more time and Harry passed his test with flying colours. I would recommend Nick to anyone that would want an honest, reliable and careful car driving instructor.

It can be very daunting for a parent when their teenage son starts driving lessons, knowing that they are going to be out on the roads brings a whole new set of worries, as if being a parent to a teenager isn’t stressful enough!! I was lucky as I happened to know Nick before Charlie started driving so he already had the thumbs up from me!! Charlie on the other hand didn’t know Nick so he was about to embark on a new adventure and spending hours on end in a car with a stranger… This can be difficult from a teenagers point of view as they are not the most sociable breed!

Nick came round to our house to introduce himself and for an informal chat and to go through the driving lesson process, which as a parent I thought was a really nice touch as not all instructors do this.

From Charlie’s perspective he had nothing but nice things to say about Nick whilst learning to drive over the weeks, he said Nick was patient, thorough, calm, informative and easy to get along with, he did say though that he needs to work on his jokes as they are not always funny!! (Feedback is always a good thing, we all have areas we can improve on lol.)

The theory test proved to be a challenge for Charlie, Nick came round to the house and went through the test with him, at no extra cost I might add, Charlie found this to be really helpful, again not all instructors offer this service.

Then came the dreaded test, Nick was brilliant on the build up to the test and they worked on Charlie’s weak areas… What really impressed me as a parent was that Nick also went over with Charlie how to control the car when put in difficult situations, as a parent we would be naive to think that once they’ve passed there will be an element of ‘showing off’ on the roads.Charlie passed!! I would not hesitate in recommending Nick, he’s a fantastic instructor and a jolly nice chap!

Nick was recommended to me by a work colleague. My daughter was very nervous and on her first lesson was in tears. Not only did Nick go and speak to her, he managed to calm her down enough for her to go on her first lesson and also to drive!! We found Nick very approachable and he has a very good way of dealing with all sorts of people and situations. He is very understanding and makes learning to drive fun. Thanks to Tim being a superb instructor I passed my driving test today.

Tim was hands down the best teacher I’ve ever had! He was professional, easy going and friendly. I was always made to feel comfortable in a relaxed atmosphere that was perfect to learn and develop my skills behind the wheel, which in the wrong hands would have been incredibly stressful. Being a superb instructor, he provided me with all the knowledge I needed to pass my driving test first time around with hardly any minors, and continue to grow as a driver there after.

I can confidently say that Nick has a firm grip on the fundamentals of excellent driving. It’s this confidence that made me certain that through Nick, I will not only be able to pass my driving test first time, but also enjoy the experience instead of racking my brain about it!

My boyfriend recommended me Nick and I can safely say it was such a lovely experience. I was extremely anxious about driving and had put off learning for years, however Nick met with me before we even started any lessons to ease my nerves & get to know each other a little more – which made me feel so much more comfortable due to not feeling like I was about to get in the car with a complete stranger. He was so supportive and patient with me throughout all our lessons and helped me build my confidence greatly. I ended up really enjoying my lessons/driving which was quite a shock considering I didn’t even want to ever be sitting in the drivers seat. I’ve not long passed my test (first time woo!) and I couldn’t recommend anyone more. Thank you again, will definitely miss the weekly gossiping and laughs!

Learning to drive with Nick has been a lovely experience. I was referred to him by a friend, who also passed first time with Nick and became a very confident driver, as I wasn’t getting along too well with my previous instructor. No regrets in doing so, he’s a very friendly man, and definitely knows his stuff. Makes you feel safe and comfortable when driving, and is very clear in his teaching. Was very accommodating, as when I had booked a relatively last minute test, he was able to fit in the extra lessons I needed to pass. After doing so, he has been quick to offer me motorway lessons. I feel Nick has also taught me not only to pass my test, but to become a safe driver. Thanks Nick.

From a young age I’ve always wanted Nick to teach me to drive and when I started my driving lessons in December, I was a very nervous driver with not much confidence. However Nick made me feel very comfortable and safe while having fun at the same time with his jokes. Even though at the beginning I was finding it hard to drive especially with the biting point, Nick reassured me every lesson that it would get easier over time and it did. He praised me for my good work which made me feel proud of myself even if I thought I done something wrong or I did bad in the lesson. Throughout my lessons, Nick even helped me with my theory practice which lead me to pass first time and with Nick’s help and encouragement I passed first time on my practical test and have just completed my pass plus course. I would 100% recommend Nick to people who are learning to drive because he has patience and makes sure his students gets the best care and achieve their goals. I am going to miss my lessons with Nick and his jokes and anyone to have him as a driving instructor should be privileged as he’s the best.

I started my driving lessons with nick about 6 months ago, i previously had multiple driving instructors that i couldn’t get along with or who were confusing me a bit. When i started lessons with nick i had some confidence in my driving but wasn’t fully comfortable and i didn’t know why i was doing certain things as it had been taught to me but not explained with previous instructors, Nick definitely broke that uncertainty and explained everything in the best way, he adjusted his teaching to how i would understand and feel comfortable. I also struggled with my theory a lot and was always told by previous instructors that they would help however i never received that help but with Nick he followed up on everything he said, he helped me revise for my theory multiple times and kept pushing me and motivating me to do better. I would always look forward to my lessons with Nick he would always find a way of making it fun and enjoyable in a relaxed environment, weather that be by telling his dad jokes or doing something new, i definitely couldn’t of done it with out him and the proof is in the fact i passed my theory and practical test in just a few short months of each other. I would highly recommend Nick to anyone starting to drive or has been driving especially if you’re nervous or struggle with anxiety like myself i love driving and will certainly miss our lessons.My mum said she come across nick on Facebook as he commented back to her when she reached out looking for an instructor. Nick is a fantastic instructor, I had to change instructors part way through my lessons and Nick was really easy going, tested my ability rather than starting from scratch, put my anxieties at ease and got me through to pass my test first time with only 5 minors!Nick is a lovely person and I got on really well with him which made learning to drive much easier. He handled any mistakes I made really well, and taught me how to rectify them and explained things in an easy to understand manner. Nick was recommended to me by a friend and I would recommend Nick to anyone, especially if you’re a little anxious about driving as Nick is excellent at putting worries at ease, he’s a good laugh too!Thank you Nick!

My experience of driving lessons with Nick has been very positive. I find the way the lessons are taught to be very useful; he will go over what we are doing and the first few times trying out the new skill he will talk you through it, he will then ask you if you feel confident enough to try out the skill with little or no help and you will practice again. I found this very helpful because it gave me the space to take my own decisions which is very important when driving, while still having the safety net of Nick when I needed assistance. He is very good at reassuring you and making sure that you feel comfortable before starting anything new. For example, I was quite nervous about beginning roundabouts, so he talked me through them, and we went to look at a roundabout to spot safe gaps to pull out in before actually pulling up to a roundabout in a car. This gave me the confidence I needed to start to practice roundabouts.

Before starting to learn, he supplied me with a pack of notes which covered everything we would be doing in the lessons as well as information on how to deal with things such as accidents for after passing the practical test. I think this helped me a lot because I was able to practice and revise knowledge from the previous lesson. It is also very useful because at the end of every lesson, you make a list of your goals for the next lesson, and you are able to use this study pack to look over what you will be doing in the next lesson which I found very beneficial, especially if it was something I was nervous about learning because it would reassure me.

He will take your opinions on what you want to learn in the next lesson, especially nearer to the test date – he will go through anything you feel nervous about and practice it until you feel confident.

Nick also provided a free theory test tutoring session which gave me good strategies for the theory test especially with the hazard perception clips as he helped me to understand how they work in the test, and he went over common mistakes made in questions which helped a lot.

I had a driving instructor for two lessons before Nick and it was not great so I decided to find a new instructor. My mum found Nick for me and it was the best thing that could have happened. I had very low confidence in myself and this got knocked massively by my first instructor.

Nick came to my house to meet me and introduce himself a few days before my lesson which I thought was brilliant. It helped me get to know a little bit about him and him get to know me before my actual lesson which made me feel much more at ease and comfortable.

Nick was an amazing instructor, he absolutely helped me build my confidence very quickly. He is so friendly and funny and loves to crack a joke, all my lessons were a fantastic experience and I always looked forward to the next.

Nick came to my house and gave me an hour n a half theory lesson free of charge. This was brilliant and helped massively, so much so, I passed my theory test first time and thanks to his brilliant teaching I also passed my driving test first time with flying colours.

I will be forever grateful to Nick for all his knowledge, kindness and support in helping me achieve all of this and most importantly helping me build my confidence and self esteem. He truly helped me make a dream come true.

I learnt with Nick and never had any problems at all. Lessons were very enjoyable for me and it felt like you could have a laugh and a bond while still learning everything you needed to know at a quality standard at the same time, really makes being on the road a positive experience and something to look forward to at all times.

Something that really helped me during my time learning was Nick’s patience, throughout my life I have always taken longer to learn than my peers and often struggled to pick up on things as quickly as others. Thankfully, I was with the perfect instructor for this meaning it was no problem at all as Nick had incredible patience and always made sure I was ready to move on, no matter how long it took me. Additionally, I was pushed on with encouraging words that felt genuine and really upped my confidence while tackling a new challenge on the road whether it be my gear changes at the start, manoeuvres or my roundabouts. I was always made aware of when I made a step forward in my driving, no matter how big or small it was.

In addition, If you are someone who worries about making mistakes on the road then you’ll be in safe hands here. I made a fair few while learning, which can easily overwhelm you at times but Nick always knew how to ease my frustration and found a way for me to take each mistake as a lesson learnt for next time which was a brilliant mentality to have.

One more point, I was nervous before my test and started doubting myself which was affecting my driving. We had a chat right before my test, like previously mentioned the words of encouragement killed all my nerves and I went and passed which I don’t think I could have done without him.

Overall, Nick has been an incredible driving Instructor for me and I couldn’t have asked for anyone better on my learning experience, I highly recommend! 10/10

Nick was the most patient and kindest instructor, I started driving with Nick on the day of my 17th Birthday & knew it would take me quite a while to warm up to using a manual car, I felt very nervous behind the wheel. Nick guided me with his words of wisdom and witty jokes. I like to think of Nick as more of my friend after the past 2 years (and covid on the side), from singing in the car, telling him my life stories & hearing all about his, whilst learning how to drive & gaining confidence in myself doing so. I couldn’t say enough thank you’s to Nick for his professionalism, the laughs he gave me and me passing my test today, first time with only 5 minors! No matter how much I wanted to give up and let my self esteem take over, Nick picked me back up and believed in me. I would recommend him to anyone. Being a nervous new learner, Nick put me at ease straight away, he always made me feel comfortable and safe when driving. The way he taught was very thorough and easy to understand, taking me through all the steps and encouragement even when I made mistakes. He not only taught me how to pass the test, but also how to put what I had been taught into real life driving. His honest constructive feedback allowed me to develop my skills and understanding of safe driving for the future. From a student perspective, I would highly recommend Nick and his attitude whilst teaching, which helped me achieve the milestone of passing my driving test.

Learning to drive with 17 PLUS was a great experience. Nick was the second instructor that I had lessons with, after failing my test the first time, he not only helped to broaden my driving experience, but also greatly improved my confidence to a point where I passed my test the second time with very few minor faults. I found that Nick taught me how to drive in real life situations, with handy tips, rather than teaching me just how to pass my driving test, which isnt typically a real life situation. When I passed, I was offered a complementary 2-hour motorway lesson, which provided me with even more driving experience. I then went on to complete Pass Plus with Nick, which was an enjoyable day that helped to develop my confidence with motorway, long distance and night driving. I would recommend Nick as a driving instructor to any learner driver, he is a perfectionist and a great teacher. Thanks Nick!

Nick was a really supportive driving instructor, who taught all the skills I would need to drive safely for a lifetime. Nick tailored lessons to my individual needs which meant that I was always able to revisit manoeuvres that I struggled with. In the lead up to my test I felt really well supported and Nick helped to calm my nerves on test day! I always felt valued as a student and would often chat away about many non driving related things. As somebody who struggles with anxiety I couldn’t recommend Nick enough, he is a genuinely nice individual and a brilliant instructor!

Nick was the most patient and kindest instructor, I started driving with Nick on the day of my 17th Birthday & knew it would take me quite a while to warm up to using a manual car, I felt very nervous behind the wheel. Nick guided me with his words of wisdom and witty jokes. I like to think of Nick as more of my friend after the past 2 years (and covid on the side), from singing in the car, telling him my life stories & hearing all about his, whilst learning how to drive & gaining confidence in myself doing so. I couldn’t say enough thank you’s to Nick for his professionalism, the laughs he gave me and me passing my test today, first time with only 5 minors! No matter how much I wanted to give up and let my self esteem take over, Nick picked me back up and believed in me. I would recommend him to anyone. I have a below elbow, right arm amputation so need to drive an adapted vehicle. I started learning to drive at South East Drivability in Maidstone but felt I was not progressing. I then met Nick there and we hit it off straight away. So much so that I followed him when he left S.E.D. to focus on his own business. He conducted lessons in my own adapted car. I found the lessons professional and engaging. He gave me the confidence to drive which I never thought I would gain through his patience, instruction and his ability to explain clearly what was required to be a good driver, his lessons were instructive and set me challenges to improve my driving throughout the week. The day I passed my driving test I was overwhelmed and feel that without Nick I would never have accomplished such a huge milestone and became the safe driver I am today. I was his first student to pass with a physical disability and it was a very emotional moment for both of us. Thank you so much Nick I will never forget you. You’ve completely changed my life!

Well what can I say about learning to drive with Nick Salzen?

It is an experience that I will never forget. I did a two-week intensive driving course with Nick in Rainham, Kent and did not think that I would be able to learn as much as I did. The lessons were very professional yet relaxed and he never pushed me further than he felt I could cope with. He also did theory lessons with me that none of my previous driving instructors had done. Nick made driving fun yet safe and I firmly believe that the two weeks I spent with Nick made me the driver I am today. I will never forget what he taught me.

I cannot thank Nick enough for helping me overcome my fear of driving and getting me to where I am today having passed my theory and practical tests first time! Following a bad experience with a previous instructor, I was unsure about driving but Nick really made me enjoy it. His way of teaching is structured and productive yet he always found a way to tell jokes and calm me down if I was feeling stressed. He’s honestly been so supportive throughout my lessons and has always gone above and beyond to help me feel confident in myself to drive.
